Saudi Arabia invests in new road links

In Saudi Arabia some 16 road construction deals worth a total of US$ 597.25 million have now been awarded by the Transport Ministry. The projects involve the construction of some 969km of road links in the country.

FMCSA criticised for not promoting significant truck safety improvements

American Trucking Associations president and CEO Bill Graves has praised the efforts of the nation's truck drivers, safety directors and law enforcement officers for their contribution to the continued progress in the industry's safety record. Hong Kong to target polluting vehicles

Within the next two years, Hong Kong plans to deploy a new pollution detection system based on ultraviolet and infrared sensors to measure carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbon concentrations in exhaust fumes from LPG and petrol-powered vehicles. The detectors will be portable and located at five different areas daily. Road deaths in France at lowest since 1945

The French interior ministry has announced that there were 3,980 road deaths in France between 1 November 2010 and 31 October 2011. This is the lowest number recorded since 1945. In October 2011, there were 377 road deaths, a 6.4 per cent decline on October 2010. There are currently some 42 million licenced drivers in France.

Global consumers not plugging into EVs - Deloitte survey

Consumers worldwide expect electric vehicles to travel farther, require less charge time and retail for a lower price than automakers are offering, according to a new survey from Deloitte.In fact, consumers' expectations around performance and purchase price are so divergent from the actual offerings available today, that no more than two to four per cent of consumers worldwide would have their expectations met, according to the survey.

Volvo Trucks has announced it will deliver a total of 100 FE hybrid trucks to 13 selected European countries by 2013. Sao Paulo's new road plans

Plans are in hand in Brazilian city Sao Paulo for a package of key road projects intended to improve connectivity. These will include two stretches of new road for the Nova Odessa/Americana/Santa Barbara and Campinas/Nova Odessa link. The Malaysia authorities are now offering four key road projects for tender. The four projects are for a road linking Tanjung Bungah and Teluk Bahang spanning at 12km, the 4.2km Gurney Drive-Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu bypass, the 6.5km Penang-Butterworth Tunnel and the 4.6km Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu-Bandar Baru Air Itam bypass.
