The AVO 1 route in Santiago, Chile has won a key award for its safety for drivers

Chile’s busy Autopista Vespucio Oriente route has been presented with a prize for its safety. The contest was organised by the International Safety Media Awards (ISMA) for the actions carried out on safety issues.

The concession for the new Autopista Vespucio Oriente (AVO 1) was awarded the silver prize in the “Web-Based” category, due to its great design, simple and functional, as well as the implication of being the road infrastructure. largest in Latin America, designed based on environmental protection. Areas that were evaluated with the iRAP Star Rating methodology.

To obtain this award, iRAP (The International Road Assessment Programme) created a digital presentation that led visitors on a virtual journey inside AVO 1, both through the tunnel, as well as overpasses, roads with several underground lanes and along the eastern area of Santiago.

It all started when the Concessionaire Vespucio Oriente SA (SCAVO), contracted the Highway Assessment Programme (iRAP) to evaluate the level of safety that AVO 1 has, in order to ensure that the highway was designed to provide safety, with the aim that users who transit are feel calm and safe.

“It is a pride to be recognised for the road safety elements that we implement in AVO1, since from the beginning of our operation we have assigned a great human and technical team to guarantee the operation of the highway and the safety of our users,” said Luis Eusebio Íñigo, general manager of AVO1.

The award focuses on the company’s ability to identify sections at risk and modify their design to improve safety.
The International Safety Media Awards (ISMA) recognise high-quality safety media that exists around the world. The ISMAs offer the possibility of rewarding safety standards and the prevention of accidents and injuries in the face of any event that may occur.
