The road linking Uganda with Sudan is being rebuilt with loans coming from the Japanese Government and the US-based World Bank. The cost of improving the road between Gulu and Atiak in Uganda and Nimule in Sudan is expected to be around US$245 million.

An important milestone has been reached at the Airport Link and Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) projects in Brisbane, Australia, with an Aker Wirth roadheader T3.20 breaking through in the 490m long Busway Tunnel at Lutwyche. China is investing in a new bridge that will link with its neighbor North Korea. The project is expected to cost in the region of US$249 million.

The Bangladesh Government is to open the bidding process for the 6.15km Padma Multi-purpose Bridge project shortly. The bridge project is expected to cost US$2.4 billion in all.

Plans are being formulated for a road tunnel in Bhutan, with phase one of a feasibility study now having been completed by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).

Construction of Tunisia's new north-south highway will start shortly. The 152km highway will link Sfax and Gabès and the construction schedule calls for the building of underpasses, flyovers, interchanges, tollgates and 10 bridges.
