The tender process is starting in the Philippines for amajor expressway project. The 59.4km link will feature two lanes in either direction and cost an expected US$420.15 million, taking five years to construct. The new Tarlac-Pangasinan La Union Expressway (TPLEx) extension will run from Rosario town to San Juan, a key destination for tourists.
The new connection will provide a faster link between the municipalities of Rosario and San Juan. The TPLEX extension project was approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board. The budget has been granted by the Department of Finance (DOF).
The tender process is being managed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). However, an unsolicited proposal has already been submitted by the San Miguel Holdings Corp (SMHC) to construct the route.
Unless further suitable bids are received before March 2024, the authorities may accept the offer from SHMC for the project. If other bids are received, the final decision to award the work would then be made in May 2024.
