Construction is underway in Paraguay for the Route of Progress project. The work is being managed by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).
The route lies in South Paraguay and is around 75% complete at present. The 44km stretch linking Ybyraty and San Juan Bautista is benefiting from major improvement work that will boost safety and capacity. The road structure is being upgraded, while paving will deliver an improved surface.
Paraguay is benefiting from major infrastructure development works worth a total of $5 billion, with the Bi-Oceanic Corridor delivering better connectivity for the country and its neighbours. A key portion of the project is the Bioceánica Bridge linking Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay and Porto Murtinho in Brazil.
The Bi-Oceanic Corridor will connect Brazil’s Atlantic port of Santos with the Chilean Pacific ports of Antofagasta and Mejillones, crossing Paraguay as well as Argentina. This work is of key importance as the country is landlocked and will boost Paraguay’s economy.
