The National Capital Commission in Ottawa has approved design principles for a sixth interprovincial link between Ottawa, in Ontario, and Gatineau in neighbouring Quebec province.
The project would include a bridge over the Ottawa River that separates the two provinces. The link would create a corridor from Highway 50 and Montée Paiement in Gatineau, Quebec, to the Aviation Parkway in Ottawa and eventually on to Highway 417. The project aims to divert truck traffic from the downtown area of Ottawa, Canada’s capital.
The commission hopes that a final design will be complete by 2029 and the link to be open 2034. A new bridge will connect the cities of Hull in Quebec with Ottawa, directly across the river in Ontario.
