Operator rates Hitachi excavators for reliability and comfort

Davey Civils Site Manager explains why Hitachi excavators are rented from Synergy Hire to work on its below-ground civil engineering projects in the south-east of England.

A Hitachi ZX135US-7 medium excavator, hired by UK contractor Davey Civils, has been used to demobilise a site following the upgrade of a sewage and treatment works facility in Kent. The short-tail swing Zaxis-7 model was used to sort and load 15,000m3 of crushed ragstone into eight trucks per day and was on site for six weeks.

Projects such as this involve the setting of fixed deadlines by Davey Civils’ customer, Southern Water, and the UK Environment Agency. To complete the work on time and to a high standard, Davey Civils requires reliable equipment and a dependable rental company that can deliver at short notice, if required.

With the youngest fleet in the industry, Synergy Hire provides the latest Hitachi machines from three to 35 tonnes. “The excavators from Synergy Hire are changed every two years, so they are the right age with the right number of working hours,” says Site Manager Keith Sturmer. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a breakdown.

“And it’s always good to have professional, good-looking equipment on site – first impressions count. It attracts the eyes of other people in the industry.”

Reliability when it matters
Having worked with Synergy Hire for six years, Keith knows that he can rely on the company and its National Sales Manager Ben Seaman to support Davey Civils’ engineering projects in the south-east of England. “If I call him and say, ‘I need two machines tomorrow,’ he’ll do it. He jumps on board with everything we do. You need reliability, and they care when you’re up against it.”

With its own transport fleet, Synergy Hire guarantees next-day delivery on all orders placed before 2pm, from its head office in Hertfordshire, and branches in Southampton, Birmingham, Swindon, Kent and Glasgow. The company’s delivery drivers are trained to provide an exceptional and professional service, with handover and safety training. “Our sites are often in remote locations such as this, but their drivers help us out,” says Keith.

Experience and knowledge extend throughout the Synergy Hire team, ensuring a high level of customer service. Assisting with documentation, advising on attachments, and arranging equipment transport – including organising road closures and movement orders – are all part of the package for Davey Civils. “From the initial communication, to the collaboration through to collection – it’s always a professional service. And that’s what you need to be successful.”
