Oklahoma is to benefit from a series of new turnpike projects now being planned. A budget of US$5 billion has been set for improving and upgrading turnpikes in the state.
The works include building four new interchanges for the Indian Nation Turnpike in Pittsburg County. One of these will be for a cloverleaf layout for the McAlester/US Highway 69 interchange. Other projects will include an extension to Kickapoo Turnpike at I-40 south to I-35 near Purcell and new interchanges at Choctaw Road, I-40, Franklin Road, Alameda Drive, Etowah Road, SH-9, US-77 and I-35.
A notable project being planned is for a new east-west turnpike connecting the east and west and running around the centre of Oklahoma City. This is intended to link with I-35 and I-44.
