Work on the 8km Gilcrease Expressway project in Oklahoma is now well underway. The project forms part of wider works to upgrade the orbital highway around the city of Tulsa.
Costing US$365.6 million, the toll road project will feature two lanes in either direction and will provide a stretch of the western loop for Tulsa’s orbital highway. The stretch of road includes two bridges spanning the Arkansas River that carry traffic in either direction. There are also 20 other bridges and four major interchanges at W 51st St, W 41st St, W 21st and US-412, as well as a 3m-wide track for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project will provide an improved connection between Interstate 44 in Tulsa and the US412 Sand Springs Expressway. The route is being built for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority(OTA) by a joint venture comprising AECOM and Duit Construction under a build-finance contract and is due for completion by mid-2022.
