Morocco’s motorway map is growing

Morocco’s road US$1.3 billion road development budget for 2024 will help the country continue with its road expansion programme. The country’s motorway network will extend to a total of 3,000km by 2030 if the current development work continues.

One of the key projects underway at present is for the 60km highway connection between Morocco’s capital, Rabat, and the country’s largest city, Casablanca, which is costing around $492 million. Another important project is for the $866.5 million connection between Tiznit and Dakhla and the $689 million road improving the link to Port Nador.

The new 255km highway that will link Fez, Ouazzane and Chefchaouen with Tétouan is expected to cost $1.83 billion. A 104km motorway is being proposed to link Guercif and Nador, which will improve access to the West Med port.

Also being studied is a motorway to link the Rabat-Casablanca, Rabat-Fez, and Kenitra-Tangier motorways. The new link would bypass Rabat, reducing journey times. It would offer an alternative route for drivers travelling between Fez and Casablanca or Fez and Tangiers, reducing congestion on the existing National  Road No 6.
