Widening work is starting shortly on the Casablanca-Berrechid stretch of the motorway that links Casablanca with the Mohammed V international airport in Morocco. The project will result in this section of the motorway featuring three lanes in either direction, compared to the two lanes at present. The work will help cut congestion on the route, which can lead to lengthy delays for drivers at peak periods.
The first phase of the widening work cost US$42.2 million. In all, the project will see a total of 26km of the motorway between the Sidi Maârouf interchange and Berrechid junction being widened. The project is being handled by Autoroutes du Maroc.
