Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbaatar looks set to benefit from improvements to road safety and traffic flow. The plans call for a loan from The World Bank to pay for a five-year programme of road improvements. The work is expected to cut Ulaanbaatar’s chronic congestion and also help reduce its serious pollution problem.
Called the Ulaanbaatar Sustainable Urban Transport Project, the plan is to boost traffic flow and road safety in the city. Public transport will be improved, while the traffic control centre will benefit from new technology. Road repair and maintenance works will be carried out and the programme will help deliver the city’s Road and Transport Development Strategy.
Design work will be carried out during this year, while construction will commence in 2022, while in three years an additional 223km of roads will have been built if all goes to plan.
