A new survey carried out in Latvia has highlighted the country’s problem with poor bridge condition. According to the survey, 45% of bridges examined are in dangerously poor condition. And the problem may actually be worse still, with bridge experts believing that up to 60% of the nation’s bridges are in a dangerously poor state. The survey was carried out by the state owned Latvian State Roads (Latvijas valsts celi). Demolishing these dangerous structures and replacing them with new crossings has been suggested as being cheaper than trying to repair those in the worst condition.
