JCB has announced a successor to CEO Alan Blake who is to retire at the end of the year. Alan Tolley, JCB’s director of engine programmes, recently spoke to World Highways Assistant Editor Guy Woodford about the company’s new six-cylinder engine - the JCB Dieselmax 672. The result of a £45 million investment by JCB was unveiled during the firm’s recent International Press Launch of its new machine range for 2013 held at JCB World HQ in Staffordshire, central England.

JCB has announced plans to start production of six-cylinder engines with the addition of the JCB Dieselmax 672 to its world renowned engine line-up. In just over eight years JCB has gone from a new entrant to engine manufacturing to a major global producer with a reputation for fuel efficiency and innovation. The first engine rolled off the production line in the UK in November 2004 and since then production has also extended to JCB India’s HQ at Ballabgarh, where the first engine was manufactured in 2011.

The debut PLANTWORX construction equipment exhibition at Stoneleigh Park, in Warwickshire, central England, has been hailed a success after attracting more than 11,500 visitors over the course of the three-day event. JCB has won an order for more than 800 machines from one of the UK’s leading rental firms - a deal worth more than US$44 million (£27mn). The lucrative A-Plant order for a huge fleet of micro, mini and midi excavators and 240 Loadall telescopic handlers is a big boost for JCB’s British factories, where all the machines will be made. Delivery of the new fleet to A-Plant’s extensive UK depot network begins this month through JCB dealer Greenshields JCB. The latest deal comes on the back of 550 machines order

Magni Telescopic Handlers has ambitious plans to increase its share of the telehandler market after its €15-20million investment in machines, attachments and a new production facility. At bauma 2013, Magni has unveiled its RTH and HTH models. The RTH range consists of seven rotating telehandler models, and the HTH range of two heavy-duty machines for the mining and oil industry, with a further model in development.

The 12th Beijing International Construction Machinery Exhibition & Seminar (BICES 2013) is set to have a record 1,500 exhibitors covering an area of 230,000m2. Numbers of both domestic and international visitors are also expected to grow. Overall, BICES 2013 expects to attract more than 130,000 visitors. The new venue for the bC India show is the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, near Delhi. A total of 170,000m² of exhibition space is available for the bauma/ConExpo event taking place from 15-18 December, 2014. The move to Great Noida follows two successful events held in Mumbai.

JCB has introduced two new soil compactors; the VM117D and the VM137D with operating weights of 11tonnes and 12.2tonnes respectively. The single-drum vibratory compactors can be used for a wide range of work in infrastructure and housing projects and have a smooth drum as standard with pad foot drums as an option. They are powered by JCB’s 93kW Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim Ecomax engines, which meet the emissions target without using a DPF and are said to deliver fuel savings of 16%. Changes to the compaction
