The International Road Federation will host the 9th IRF Global Roads to Tomorrow (R2T) Conference & Exhibition on November 3-6, 2026, in San Francisco, bringing together global leaders in roads, transport and mobility innovation.
Positioned as a premier global platform, R2T focuses on translating pilot innovations into scalable, real-world applications. The conference will highlight engineering-driven solutions in AI-enabled road safety, data-centric asset management and performance-based infrastructure delivery models. Particular emphasis will be placed on integrating digital technologies into transport systems to improve lifecycle efficiency, enhance safety outcomes and strengthen network resilience.
The technical programme will address a wide range of priority areas shaping the future of transport infrastructure. Key themes include asset management and pavement preservation strategies, intelligent transport systems (ITS) and AI-powered mobility and the deployment of connected and autonomous vehicle ecosystems. Sessions will explore predictive maintenance, digital twins and big data applications to optimise infrastructure performance and decision-making.
In parallel, the conference will examine roadside safety engineering and forgiving infrastructure design, Vision Zero implementation frameworks, and innovations in work zone safety. Additional focus areas include resilient and climate-adaptive infrastructure, electrification and energy systems for mobility and regulatory readiness for emerging transport technologies.
Recognising the critical role of transport in economic development, the programme will also address freight optimisation, logistics efficiency and corridor performance. Discussions will explore funding mechanisms, road user charging models and institutional frameworks required to support sustainable infrastructure investment and long-term network performance.
R2T will feature keynote addresses from global and US thought leaders, alongside technical workshops, expert panels and live demonstrations focused on applied engineering solutions. The exhibition component will showcase advanced technologies in AI, automation, intelligent systems and next-generation infrastructure materials and equipment, providing a hands-on environment for industry stakeholders.
With participation expected from contractors, engineers, public authorities, technology providers, and research institutions, the conference aims to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and accelerate the deployment of next-generation mobility solutions worldwide. A number of public agencies and road authorities have already confirmed their participation, including several US Departments of Transportation – DOTs – reflecting strong institutional engagement at both national and regional levels. Overall attendance is expected to exceed 1,000 participants, underlining the event’s growing global relevance and industry reach.
The event will also host the 2026 IRF Global Road Achievement Awards, recognising outstanding projects and innovations from across the global road sector.
Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities remain available for the 2026 edition, enabling organisations to showcase technologies, engage directly with decision-makers and position themselves at the forefront of innovation in the global transport infrastructure sector. Early participation is recommended to maximise visibility and strategic impact at this flagship global event.
