The massive project to build the Aunta Simaria Bridge in Northern India is complete. The new bridge carries National Highway-31 over the River Ganges, with the work having been managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Construction work started on the 1.86km bridge 2017 and it features three lanes in either direction, providing a vital link between North and South Bihar, providing an important transport link for Northern India. The new bridge will cut journey distances by almost 150km. The extra-dosed, cable-stayed bridge is the widest of its type in India at 39m and also has facilities for pedestrians. Constructed by Welspun Enterprises, the bridge has also been developed as a smart structure, with CCTV and traffic control technology.
Work is also commencing for two national highway infrastructure projects in India’s National Capital Region (NCR). One project is for a key stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The Alipur-Dichaon Kalan stretch of the UER-II includes new spur links to Sonipat and Bahadurgarh.
The other project is for the Delhi section of the Dwarka expressway. This comprises two packages, including 5.9km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21 and under package II, 4.2km from Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana border, connecting directly to UER-II.
Plans are being made in Andhra Pradesh for the 56km Kuppam-Bengaluru-Chennai industrial corridor and other highway expansion projects in the state. Also planned are integrated double-decker flyovers with metro corridors along NH-16, including a 20km elevated corridor in Visakhapatnam and a 4.7km stretch in Vijayawada, as well as a 50km Vijayawada Eastern Bypass.
