Progress is good in Greece for Thessalonika’s €382 million Inner Ring Road project. The tunnel at Konstantinoupolitika, in Thessaloniki’s Pylaia district, is being demolished at present. The Panorama bridge and a bridge at Agios Pavlos have also been demolished.
Construction of the new Thessaloniki Flyover will help cut traffic congestion in the port city. This is one of the largest transport infrastructure projects for this region of Greece at present. The work is due for completion in mid-2027.
The new 13km route features an elevated stretch 7.54km in length, nine interchanges, eight new bridges and three new tunnel sections and when complete will double capacity for the Eastern Ring Road to around 20,000 vehicles/hour. Work on the project is being carried out by METKA. In addition to the new flyover link, the Thessalonika area will also benefit from new public transport works, including additional metro rail facilities.
