Finland will benefit from 3,100km of road paving and maintenance work during 2025. A budget of €365 million is being spent for the road paving work, which also includes improvements to cycle lanes and pedestrian pathways. This budget was increased by €180 million.
The work has been overseen by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylävirasto) and managed by ELY Centres. Over 800 separate construction sites have benefited from paving works, in 190 municipalities and for 40 projects. The paving work has been carried out by seven contractors.
Meanwhile, Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications intends to fund work on the Highway 9 upgrade, which will improve transport for the country’s second city, Tampere. The Highway 9 upgrade project has been identified as being of critical importance for the city.
