All main components are manufactured in Dermbach, a municipality in the state of Thuringia, central Germany. Erkat’s product ranges include the V-shaped V-Cutters, ER and ERC transverse drum cutters, ERL axial drum cutters and ADU auger drills.
They offer “smart solutions” for applications such as tunneling, quarrying, demolition, trenching and many more, said the company. The company’s drum cutters use a low-energy method of impact, resulting in low noise and vibration. Low noise means it is ideal for areas where noise is an issue and other attachment tools are not allowed.

Erkat said high production rates make the drum cutters perfect for soft rock excavation and demolition, outperforming other attachment tools. The cut material has a grain size small enough to be used for backfilling.
The accurate removal of material, no transportation and secondary crushing of broken material and high productivity allow contractors to achieve a high return on their investment.
Erkat’s drum cutters have proven their versatility and reliability in challenging environments, for example reaching about 150m deep in offshore applications in Newfoundland, Canada, and operating at the highest job site in Tibet, working at an altitude of around 3,000m.
“We are proud of our journey and excited for the future as we continue to lead the industry with our cutting-edge solutions,” said Martina Schierholz, senior operations manager at Erkat.
