Ebolowa-Kribi in Cameroon’s 2025 goals

Cameroon will open 755km of asphalt roads this year, around 100km more than last year, according to the government.

However, the government also noted that it had fallen short of its 2024 target of opening 655km in 2024, completing just under 400km.

A report by the economic newspaper Invest in Cameroon said Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, the minister of public works, had informed Parliament of the 2025 target during his recent defense of his budget. In addition, the plans include maintenance of more than 2,500km of dirt roads.

The year 2025 should also see the start of nine major road projects. Among these is the 179km Ebolowa-Kribi road via Akom II that is expected to cost around 137 billion CFA (Central African Francs), the equivalent of around US$220 million.

Earlier press reports noted that a highway slated for improvement is the Ngaoundéré-Garoua road, part of the country’s important Douala-Ndjamena corridor. The AfDB – African Development Bank – is providing $230 million while the African Development Fund (ADF) is providing a loan of $8.85 million.
