The building of the new ring road around Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, has now been restarted. The work was suspended for a period. Called the Northern Ring Road (Circunvalacion Norte), the project is being managed by the national road authority, Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi).
The complication that had caused a halt to the works was due to an issue with regard to supervision of the project. Funding for the works supervision has now been sourced, following an agreement between Conavi and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The project is costing US$163 million and is being handled by a consortium, Estrella-H Solis. However, whether the project will now be able to meet its original construction deadline following the unscheduled halt to the works is at present unclear.
