VSS Macropaver now offers an upgraded version of its Macropaver

New from LeeBoy is an updated version of its Maximizer, which now features a 13kW electric generator and 6kW electric heating elements. This allows heating to take place while the machine is being driven to site. It can also be plugged into an electric supply overnight, allowing material to be kept warm when not in use. The machine retains the proven extending spraybar of the previous model.

An innovative and versatile machine for binder and chipsealing applications is now available from Secmair called the CHIPSEALER CT. According to Secmair, the machine can be adapted to a range of jobsites and for duties such as surface dressing, tack coating before the hot asphalt mix, coating and priming and localised treatments. The chip application rate is optimised to ensure that there is no waste and the system is said to ensure accuracy and quality during application, providing the same level of quality as for conventional surface dressing equipment.

LeeBoy’s Maximizer offers improved performance over the earlier generation model

A single operator sits in the cab, with high visibility of the worksite and optimised safety. A camera at the front of the vehicle provides visibility of the working area. The cab features joystick controls with a screen showing all key parameters, while the unit has automatically controlled application and ensures that the unit applies the correct quantities of materials..

The CHIPSEALER CT is equipped with a proven conveyor belt discharge system while the telescopic spraybar allows maximum spreading widths of up to 4.4m. Tank capacities can range from 4,000-9,000litres, depending on customer requirements.

Key features include an exclusive valve block to manage the binder, precise dosing and transversal distribution. Other important features include thermal insulation and heating, a system that minimises fuel consumption and an automatic purging control that ensures there is no waste left on the ground.

The CHIPSEALER CT can be equipped with the firm’s new pilot system, which allows a more precise patch application without overconsumption of materials. For patching, the DUOSPRAY option is said to ensure optimal dosage on all the application width, while enriching jets ensure that the chips adhere to the sides of the area being repaired.

And VSS Macropaver says that its Macropaver-CR model is able to deliver slurry and polymer-modified micro surfacing efficiently. The machine features a Patent Pending ground drive that uses a variable displacement hydrostatic pump driving two bent axis motors. The Macropaver-CR is capable of 40km/h for forward and reverse.

An electric bond coat sprayer is in use in the UK by Tarmac

The loading conveyor has a 5.6tonne/min capacity with a 508mm cleated belt, fully enclosed with return idlers and lift cylinders for quick access. The Patent Pending hydraulic system features three variable displacement, pressure-compensated pumps for paving and loading circuits. There is one variable displacement hydrostatic pump for the closed loop ground drive circuit, while there is one gear pump for the steering and cooling circuit.

The Macropaver is said to be equipped with high-quality components and no chain or sprocket drives, allowing rugged and dependable performance, while the unit offers reliability, ease of operation, and productivity.

And in the UK, contractor Tarmac is introducing an electrically powered bond coat sprayer for road works. Tarmac supplier and highways equipment specialist, DE Plant, part of the Thriplow Group, developed the all-electric vehicle.

Tarmac and DE Plant partnered with Volvo and Schäfer-technic to develop an all-electric, zero-emission sprayer, which offers carbon savings of 1.12kg CO2e/km. The electric sprayer was used for the first time on the A120 in Essex. Once fully operational, the sprayer is set to service the area surrounding the M25 London orbital motorway. DE Plant worked with Volvo to develop the chassis, benefitting from the automotive manufacturer’s expertise in developing EVs. Specialist firm Schäfer-technic has developed the specialist tanker, sprayer and nozzles. Tarmac also worked with BituChem to develop a new product to replace traditional bitumen. With no diesel generator to keep the bitumen warm for spraying, Bondcoat Duo is used as a cool product so that battery power can be conserved. England’s road authority National Highways has approved the use of Bondcoat Duo on the strategic road network, which has the potential to offer further carbon savings if used by existing bond coat sprayers.

The electric bond coat sprayer has a 200kW battery pack installed which can be fully charged in 2-4 hours depending on the charge connection, and has a range of almost 160km/charge.
