A loan package from the World Bank will help pay for transport infrastructure upgrades in Bangladesh. Worth US$525 million the loan will be used to improve connectivity to rural areas in Bangladesh, in a bid to boost the country’s economic development. $100million of the loan will be directed towards the country’s Second Rural Transport Improvement Project (RTIP II). This programme of works will see upgrades being carried out to 1,433km of rural roads in the Upazila Region and Union Region. The remaining $425 million will be used for the Operation for Supporting Rural Bridges Programme (SupRB). This will be used to upgrade and widen existing rural bridges and also build new links. The loan is for a 30 year period.
