A fleet of Wirtgen machines is helping build a section of a major highway in Romania, the Transylvanian Autostrada A3. This 588km road connects Romanian capital Bucharest with the Hungarian border and links to the Hungarian M4 highway. Plans for the A3 got the go-ahead in 2004 and the route runs via Ploieti, Braov, Sighioara, Târgu Mure, Cluj-Napoca, Zalau and Oradea to the Hungarian border, with completion scheduled for 2017.

In the middle of central Texas lies Blanco County, which is in the state’s Hill Country. West of Austin and north of San Antonio, the county is traversed by the Blanco River and the Pedernales River, and two major highways, US Highway 290 and US Highway 281. Because of the proximity to two major cities, the highways carry heavy traffic volumes and US 281 in particular was in need of repair.

Testing equipment specialist CONTROLS is opening a new facility in the Middle East. The company now has a subsidiary operation in Iraq’s Kurdish region, which is intended to boost the presence of the CONTROLS business in the region. Called TE CONTROLS, the business is located in Erbil and offers the firm’s range of soil, asphalt and concrete testing technologies including basic and sophisticated systems, while also providing sales and service support.

From XCMG comes an array of new machines for loading and hauling as well as road construction. Designed for the domestic market, the LW800K LNG is a 28.5tonne wheeled loader powered by a 257kW Weichai diesel and using LNG as fuel. Twin 500litre gas tanks sit just behind the cab and the machine is suited to duties in sites where emissions may be an issue. The machine features ZF axles and a ZF transmission.
