Hamm reports that its H series single drum compactors are proving highly successful, particularly the H5 and H7 models introduced last year. The firm is continuing to upgrade the range with the sophisticated driving system now being introduced to all of the Tier 4 Final/Stage IV compliant soil compactors weighing 7tonnes or more. Liebherr’s new R 9200 mining excavator is a 200tonne class machine being offered in different configuration options to fit worldwide requirements. Engine manufacturer MTU, a division of Rolls Royce Power Systems, is using a range of technologies to meet the proposed EU Stage V emissions regulations that are expected in 2019. The company’s 1000-1500 engine ranges, with power outputs of 100-480kW, will be available with both one-box and two-box exhaust after treatment solutions, including diesel particulate filters (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) with a diesel exhaust fluid. Oerlikon, Fairfield and Oerlikon Graziano are keen to demonstrate a range of high-tech driveline solutions to OEMs. Oerlikon Fairfield in particular is working on a range of modular hybrid technologies, with motors integrated into the gearbox that could be used to drive compact tracked loaders and other small machinery. Oerlikon Graziano is focussing on shifting solutions, with new hydraulic powershift clutch modules on offer to deliver improved driver comfort and reduced component wear.

Liebherr is working together with Teufelberger to develop a high-strength fibre rope for use with cranes. This innovative rope will be suitable for use in tower cranes, mobile cranes and crawler cranes and Liebherr is carrying out field tests at present on a number of different cranes. Austrian firm Teufelberger is a leader in the field of crane ropes. This project is being carried out jointly between Liebherr engineers from various divisions, as well as Teufelberger.

Doosan Construction Equipment’s new 5 tonne DX57W-5 Stage IV compliant wheeled excavator complies with the latest Stage 3B emission regulations. The DX57W-5 has increased power from the 42.5kW Doosan D24 4-cylinder engine which meets Stage 3B emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) after-treatment technologies. Komatsu Europe claims that its new WA470-8 wheel loader offers higher output and lower emissions than the model it replaces. Power comes from a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV engine and its fuel consumption is up to 8 % lower than for the WA470-7. The new model retains the proven durability and reliability of the earlier model but also offers improved stability, breakout power and tractive effort. Productivity is improved while fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 8%.
