Work for Taiwan’s $3 billion dual carriageway linking Kaohsiung and Pingtung will commence in 2026, earlier than originally planned. Called the Kaohsiung-Pingtung East-West 2nd Expressway, the 22.6km dual carriageway will provide a new connection with National Highway 3 in the South-West of the island nation.
Construction work for the project was previously due to start in 2027 but has now been brought forward. When the new expressway is complete, it will reduce journey times for drivers by providing a high-speed connection between Kaohsiung and Pingtung. The work will also reduce congestion on the existing road network in the area.
