Funding has been secured for a major highway widening and upgrade project in Bangladesh. The route running from capital Dhaka to Sylhet will be widened sufficiently so that it will feature two lanes running in either direction, enabling it to better cope with the traffic volumes it currently handles. Mott MacDonald has won the contract to supervise construction of Poland’s A1 highway. The company supervise work for two sections of the A1 highway, a project being co-financed by the country’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the European Union (EU). The construction of the A1 highway is due to for completion in early 2019. The project is intended to tackle congestion in the city of Czestochowa. It will diverting traffic from the city centre onto the newly constructed 25km highway.

An approval has been granted by the prime minister to scale down and slash investment for a road project linking Hai Phong-Hanoi and Cau Gie-Ninh Binh motorways in Vietnam. In 2011, work on the project started and within 2015, it is anticipated that the project will reach completion. Due to a capital squeeze, investment on the project will reach nearly US$212 million, a cut of almost $39.64 million. By 2017, stage one of constructing two traffic lines will be completed.

A bridge crossing the Caspian Sea has been proposed. China is looking at possible designs for the structure, which would link Azerbaijan with Kazakhstan. The estimated cost of the project has not been disclosed but the bridge would provide an important link in the overland transport route from China and through Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan as well as Armenia and Turkey to Europe. Serbia’s Obrenovac-Preljina highway is due to be completed by 2017. Serbia’s Ministry of Construction says that the Obrenovac-Preljina and Ljig-Preljina routes are being financed with the aid of a €274.5 million loan from China's Exim Bank, worth a total of USD 301mn (EUR 274.48mn), while the state budget secured a total of €30.1 million.
