The Nepalese Government is planning a major programme of road development for the next three years. The aim of the programme is to build new roads that will join up to 500 Village Development Committee (VDC) locations that are not linked at present to the road network. China’s Ministry of Transport has given the green light for construction of a US$1.67 billion highway in the eastern seaboard province of Zhejiang. The project is for a 58km road linking Taishun County with Wencheng County, around the nearby city of Wenzhou. Last month the ministry passed a feasibility study for the work which is set to start sometime next year.

The Public Works and Communications Ministry is making efforts to put back on track a public-private partnership to widen routes 2 and 7.
