The cost of a planned Papua New Guinea highway project has been revealed.

New road and bridge upgrades are being introduced in Nepal that will help improve transport and develop the country’s economy.

A major road upgrade programme is being planned for India’s Maharashtra State. A loan worth US$200 million is being provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to pay for the work. The plan calls for roads in 34 of Maharashtra State’s districts to be surfaced. The State Government will provide $96 million to the programme also. The ADB is also providing a$1 million for technical assistance to the Maharashtra Rural Road Development Association.

A new highway project in Tajikistan has secured a funding package worth US$350 million in all.

Construction work is commencing for Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) Sustainable Highlands Highway Investment Programme.

A 198km stretch of highway in northwestern Vietnam is to be upgraded. The route forms part of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Kunming-Hi Phòng Transport Corridor. A loan worth US$188 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help pay for the work. The highway runs through a mountainous region and is important to Vietnam as it provides a connection between Hà Ni and China's Yunnan province. The work will improve the existing road connections and boost connectivity for Vietnam’s northern provinces

A funding package has been secured that will help pay for a key road project in Nepal. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing a loan worth US$180 million that will be used to help pay for widening work to an 87km stretch of the East-West Highway between Kamala and Kanchanpur. At present the route has just one lane in either direction but the upgrade will see the route being widened in a bid to boost capacity and safety, with two lanes in either direction. Work now looks ready to move ahead for an elevated highway project in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo. Funding has been secured in the shape of a loan worth US$300 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to help carry out the work. In all the work is expected to cost $360 million and involves building a 5.3km section of elevated highway. This new elevated route will be tolled for users when complete and will connect the new bridge spanning the Kelani River, which itself is due for completion in 2020

The route will be access-controlled and the deal was awarded by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
