Nigeria’s northern Jigawa State is investing US$202 million on improving and maintaining roads. The funding is being supplied by the Jigawa State Government. Further funding is being sought from Saudi Arabia to carry out more road and infrastructure improvements.
A total of 977km of roads have been improved by this development programme. Key works include the $2.5 million revamp of the 9.5km road linking Auyo with Ayama, which was handled by contractor Alren Construction and included measures to address flooding during the rainy season.
Jigawa State is in Northern Nigeria, to the east of the major city of Kano, and has its border with Niger to the north. The state is arid and improved road transport with better maintained infrastructure is essential to boosting its economy.
